History

The Westminster Volunteer Fire Department is rich in history that dates back to 1823. On this page, we offer you a tour of our museum, a link to our history timeline, and photos of past equipment.

Our museum is attached to the southern end of our station. The building was designed to look like an old station dating back to the late 1800′s. The station is Octagonal in design and in the front above the window contains the original stained glass window from our previous station. westminster maryland fire dept museum
Inside the museum, you will find our two antique motorized pieces, 2 hose carts, and assorted photos, documents, and other historical memorabilia. The room is designed to look like a station of the late 1800′s/early 1900′s. westminster maryland fire dept museum

The floor is constructed of concrete that has been stamped and then stained to give the impression of a hand-laid red brick typically used in Firehouse construction 100 years ago. westminster maryland fire dept museum flooring
The ceilings are constructed of Wood including the center beam that was specially built for this installation. The wood is then varnished for the natural look again found during that time period. westminster maryland fire dept museum
Here, you see some manequins that are modeling past uniforms and turnout gear. You can also see an assortment of miniature ladders. These were hand constructed by our deceased member Herb Corbin. Herb served more than 50 years and was one of the early MFRI instructors. He built the ladders to use in the classroom to teach new basic fire training courses. westminster maryland fire dept museum uniforms

Another display case that was refurbished by a local furniture refinisher. This case holds medallions from past MSFA and other association conventions going back to the start of the MSFA. One of the the first MSFA presidents was from our department. westminster maryland fire dept museum display
