October 19,2009.

Members responded to 2 serious accidents throughout the day. At around 0900 hours Medic 39 and Station 3 were alerted for a collision involving a motorcycle. Units arrived to find a motorcycle vs. car head-on. One patient was flown to shock trauma, a second was transported to a local hospital. The driver of the motorcycle later passed from his injuries. Around 1400 hours, Ambulance 37 and Engine 32 were back on the street heading to Rt. 27 and Kate Wagner Road for a reported vehicle collision. While en route, dispatch added Rescue Squad 9 (Reese), and upgraded the assignment to a vehicle collision with entrapment. Units arrived to find 3 cars involved in a head-on collision with 2 patients heavily entrapped. Eventually, 2 rescue squad companies, 2 engine companies, 5 ALS units, and 2 helicopters were called to scene to assist with extrication and patient care. The driver of one vehicle passed from her injuries later that night. Photos of that vehicle will not be shown out of respect for the family of the deceased. The thoughts and prayers of the Westminster Fire Department and its members go out to all of the families and friends of the patients involved in both collisions.
